In 1984 Steve Gowan took over the business started by his father Tom and began specialising in agricultural machinery.

Having studied Agricultural Engineering and Farm Management at Bishop Burton College, Steve's enthusiasm was clearly for agricultural machinery rather than cars. His experience grew working on farms in New Zealand and Australia.

By 1987 Gill had joined the business that due to Steve's hard work was expanding rapidly and coming to the attention of the major machinery manufacturers. Such was the success, a new workshop and stores were built on the same site at Bempton.

In 1995 Belarus tractors awarded Gowans a franchise for the area. This was followed two years later by Landini.

With a reputation for honest dealing and quality of service the business grew with a staff of trained workshop engineers and gaining new franchises from such well known names as Vicon/Rau, Tym, Can-Am quad bikes and Husqvarna groundcar machinery.

In 2004 Valtra Tractors of Finland appointed them as main dealers and they have recently been appointed main dealers for Deutz Fahr.
